NSPA to support anti-missile system for NATO MRTT fleet

LUXEMBOURG - The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has awarded a five-year in-service support contract to Elbit for the Direct Infrared Counter Measures ("DIRCM") systems supplied to the Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) fleet. The contract includes the establishment of a service centre, located at NSPA in Luxembourg, to provide support and logistics to the system.

The DIRCM is designed to protect aircraft against heat-seeking ground-to-air missiles. To date, seven systems have been integrated, certified and are operational on the Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) aircrafts.

The dedicated facility in NSPA is the direct result of cooperation between the Agency and the Original Equipment Manufacturer, Elbit. NSPA will provide a comprehensive support to the DIRCM system installed on the MMF, including provision of spare parts and maintenance services. At the same time, the new facility will increase the availability of the MMF DIRCM systems by significantly reducing the servicing turnaround times.

The support centre will be under the technical supervision of the MMF Multinational Unit (MMU). With the build-up of expertise, the facility is expected to provide support to the DIRCM system installed in other airborne platforms within the inventory of NATO nations.

The Multinational MRTT Fleet, owned by NATO and managed by the NSPA, provides strategic transport, air-to-air refueling and medical evacuation capabilities to its six participating nations (Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Luxembourg, The Netherlands and Norway).
