SALIS Participating Nations meet in Leipzig

LUXEMBOURG - On 11 October 2022, representatives from the nine Strategic International Airlift Solution (SALIS) Nations met at Leipzig Base of Operations in Germany.

Since the start of the Russian war in Ukraine, significant efforts have been made to assure the full maintenance of the AN-124 aircraft fleet in Leipzig, under the supervision of the Ukrainian Civilian Aviation Authorities. During the meeting, organized by NSPA's contractor Antonov Logistics SALIS, national representatives and NSPA officials witnessed the enhancement of the maintenance capabilities in Leipzig, which will ensure the continuity of SALIS services. A SALIS Partnership Committee took place on-site to discuss other topics of relevance.

SALIS is a multinational programme created in 2006 to provide its participating nations – currently NATO Allies Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia – with unique air transport capability as well as Outsized Cargo. SALIS is managed by NSPA on behalf of the participating nations.

The SALIS contract provides access to two Antonov AN-124-100 aircraft on a 72-hours' notice, access to an additional aircraft on six days' notice, and two additional AN-124-100 aircraft subject to availability. In the past, SALIS nations used Antonov aircraft to transport equipment to and from Afghanistan, deliver aid to the victims of the October 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, and airlift African Union peacekeepers in and out of Darfur.

Currently, SALIS is operated by its participating nations almost daily in national, NATO, and EU operations and missions worldwide.
