Luxembourg contributes to NSPA's cyber resilience with a new Data Centre

LUXEMBOURG - On 22 September 2022, the Luxembourg Directorate of Defence handed over a second Data Centre to the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). The new facility, established with the support of the Centre des technologies de l'information de l'État (CTIE), will provide Luxembourg with a secure infrastructure, while increasing NSPA's resilience against malicious cyber activities.

After four years of intense work and cooperation to secure the site, adapt the server room to NATO security standards, purchase and install the architecture required to host NSPA Network and servers, the Data Centre was handed over to NSPA during an official ceremony on 22 September 2022. Representatives from the Directorate of Defence, CTIE, Lux Data Center Company and NSPA gathered to mark the milestone.

Cyber defence is part of NATO's core task of collective defence. NSPA has collaborated with Luxembourg for many years on a number of initiatives to develop robust cyber defence capabilities and adapt to evolving threats. With the support of NSPA, Luxembourg Directorate of Defence developed a Cyber Range which, is hosted since October 2021 in the secure Data Centres originally provided to the Agency.

The new Data Centre is the second of this nature to be delivered to NSPA. The first one was delivered by Luxembourg to NSPA in 2016. The new facility possesses Tier IV classification, the highest level for Data Centres, making it highly resilient and enabling Luxembourg and NSPA to continue sharing knowledge and capabilities to better deter and fight cyber threats.

NATO and its Allies rely on strong and resilient cyber defences to fulfil the Alliance's core tasks of collective defence, crisis management and cooperative security. NSPA remains committed to contribute and adapt to ever-evolving cyber threats.
