NSPA supports Exercise NightHawk in Denmark

LUXEMBOURG - The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) is supporting Exercise NightHawk 2021, a joint exercise bringing together Special Forces from several NATO Allies and Partner nations to train in full spectrum special operations in a realistic tactical scenario.

Exercise Nighthawk is led by the Danish Special Operations Command and aims to prepare special forces to plan, prepare, execute and assess assaults or insertions following intelligence. The exercise takes place in Aalborg, Denmark and other locations in the country between the 27 of September and the 7th of October. This activity involves several units and over 2000 participants.

NSPA was tasked to support the NATO Composite- Special Operations Component Command (C-SOCC), a tri-national command formed by the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark, in the deployment and setup of a 280-person CP156 mobile infrastructure facility.

The facilities consist of a 220-person office area, 280-person accommodation area, a 500-person kitchen as well as power, ablutions, force protection and wastewater collection and disposal. The camp, set up in only 10 days, is the largest since Exercise TRIDENT JUNCTURE in 2015 and is a demonstration of NSPA's ability to rapidly deploy and provide technical oversight of a CP156 camp build-up.

Besides hosting the C-SOCC, the CP156 also supports a tri-national Composite Special Operations Air Task Group and elements of the Exercise Control from the Danish SOCOM. NSPA is providing Real Life Support to these units, including catering, power generation, cleaning, pest and vector control and infrastructure operation and maintenance since mid-September.

The exercise support will conclude on 8 October, followed by the teardown and repacking of the camp by NSPA personnel and return to the NSPA Southern Operational Centre, in Taranto, Italy.

The NSPA Southern Operational Centre (SOC), the NSPA Planning and Liaison Team (NPLT) and NSPA Transportation and Warehousing Division supported the deployment and setup of the CP156 facilities. Exercise support is conducted with the technical assistance of NSPA Food experts and through the use and proof of concept of a Real Life Support Rapidly Useable Enabling Contract (RLS RUEC), led by ECOLOG international as the RLS RUEC contractor.
