NSPA delivers medical supplies to Ukraine

LUXEMBOURG - The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has delivered a new batch of medical supplies to support Ukraine in its fight against COVID-19, as part of the NATO's Pandemic Response Trust Fund and Stockpile. The shipment consisted of almost 10 tons of personal protective equipment, including surgical masks, face shields, gloves, isolation gowns and hooded coveralls. Ukraine received a first consignment on 21 August 2021; a second delivery is scheduled for 25 August. The cargo will be distributed to the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre coordinated the donation, following a request for international assistance by Ukraine. NSPA managed the purchase and the transportation of the goods.

The delivery is part of the overall assistance Allies are providing to Ukraine to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic through the NATO's Pandemic Response Trust Fund and Stockpile. Earlier this month, Ukraine received 10 ventilators donated by NATO's Pandemic Response Stockpile and in July, NATO's EADRCC, in coordination with NSPA, delivered three negative pressure transportation chambers to this partner nation. Additional medical equipment deliveries will follow in the next months.

In 2020, NATO established a Pandemic Response Trust Fund that maintains a stockpile of medical equipment and supplies, based on in-kind contributions and targeted purchases to be able to provide immediate relief to Allies or partners in need. NSPA is managing the purchase, storage, and transportation of relief items for the stockpile.
