Danish Army acquires new missile system through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency

LUXEMBOURG – On 23 March 2021, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) placed an order to supply the Danish Army with SPIKE LR 2 system from Eurospike. The acquisition includes Command Launch Units (firing systems), training and simulation equipment, a number of anti-tank missiles and preparation for integration on the new stabilized weapons system (STAVS).

The Spike LR2 can be used to engage modern enemy armoured and protected targets. The Danish Ministry of Defence's Materiel and Procurement Agency will procure the missile system to be used as man-portable configuration and integrated on Piranha and Eagle 5 vehicles.

More than 15 NATO countries already use the SPIKE LR or LR 2 systems, which are compatible with each other. This enables both interoperability and economies of scale among Allies, with joint stocks and logistics. Through its Land Combat Missiles Support Partnership, NSPA supports Allies through the entire system life cycle management of the weapon system, from the initial acquisition support, via production and in-service support to the phase-out and demilitarization stages.

Denmark joined the NSPA Land Combat Missiles Support Partnership in 2020. "We decided to procure through an existing framework agreement with the NSPA which means both fast delivery, a good price and a high security of supply for all participating countries, including Denmark", reads the press release on the acquisition published by the Danish Ministry of Defence.

About SPIKE LR2

SPIKE LR2 is a cutting-edge 5th generation, multi-platform, multi-mission and multi-range electro-optical missile, with enhanced standoff of 5.5 km, fire & forget capabilities as well as man-in-the loop features such as re-targeting mid-flight, attacking a hidden target beyond the line of sight (BLOS), as well as the ability to launch to non-line-of-sight targets based solely on the target coordinates. SPIKE missiles are suited for land, air and naval platforms, and offer units a great operational flexibility and power on the battlefield.
