Luxembourg, 30 April 2020 - The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) continues to support Allied nations through key COVID-19 relief acquisition and transport, while drawing on economies of scale. This week, NSPA procured more than seven tons of protective medical equipment for Denmark, Slovakia, Czechia and Greece as part of NSPA's efforts to help contain the spread of the Coronavirus. The deliveries were airlifted from Shanghai to Luxembourg and were further transported to the four nations by road.
A first shipment of supplies arrived on Sunday (26 April 2020) at Findel Airport, Luxembourg. The cargo contained protective goggles, thermometers, face shields and nearly 200,000 masks for Denmark, and more than 50,000 masks and other protective equipment for Slovakia. Both shipments arrived safely to the respective final destinations on Tuesday.
The second cargo arrived containing protective goggles and more than 100,000 masks for Greece and nearly 65,000 masks and goggles for the Czechia arrived on 30 April.
The four NATO nations requested the material through the NATO Logistics Stock Exchange (NLSE), a cooperative logistics e-business platform developed by NSPA to assist nations and suppliers with item acquisition and management. NSPA procured the material and airlifted the supplies from Shanghai to Luxembourg via CargoLux Airlines, and from there onwards to their final destination.
