Luxembourg, 23 April 2020 – The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) will deliver a fully equipped field hospital to Italy at the end of the year. The Italian Army requested support to NSPA before the coronavirus outbreak to augment and modernize their military field equipment, used in Ministry of Defence authorized missions.
Initial delivery was expected for the beginning of 2021. However, given the current national health emergency, it is now foreseen to be completed by the end of 2020, increasing the current hospital infrastructure and allowing a stronger response capacity in case of similar needs in the future.
The requirement foresees structures based on interconnected containerized shelters and tents, divided into a triage area, first aid, X ray and ultrasound laboratories, a surgical preparatory room, operation and hospitalisation areas, a pharmacy, and other necessary medical functions.
