NSPA handed over training support vehicles to Georgia

Whether, clearing mines and unexploded munitions or providing training and equipment, NSPA continues assisting Georgia to strengthen and modernize its security and defence sector. On 17 October, fifteen vehicles were handed over to the Georgian Ministry of Defence (MoD) during a ceremony celebrated in Tbilisi, the capital of the country. Twelve Toyota Hilux, two minivans and one ambulance will be used as training support vehicles at the NATO-Georgian Joint Training and Evaluation Center (JTEC).

More than 50 people attended the event, including the Georgian Minister of Defence and representatives, ambassadors and others associated with the project. "JTEC continues developing its infrastructure and technical capacity. With the delivery of these vehicles through NATO Defence Capacity Building Trust Fund we are seeing the results of a long but very fruitful process", stated Defence Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili.

The project was sponsored and funded by the NATO Defence Capacity Building (DCB) programme and executed by NSPA's NATO Trust Fund team. The Defence Minister expressed his gratitude for the important contribution from the Alliance to support Georgia's readiness and integration.

A second phase of the project will provide up to seven logistic support vehicles early in 2020. The training center is used by both Georgian and visiting NATO troops and offers excellent facilities for live-fire, maneuver, and command and control exercises.

Ms Gvantsa Kvinikadze coordinated activity in Georgia with David Towndrow, who managed the project on behalf of NSPA.

The overall project budget is 1.2 million euros and was carried out under the financial contribution from NATO Allies - Denmark, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, The United Kingdom and Türkiye.
