Land Systems


The scope of NSPA's support to land systems has gradually expanded over the years and now embraces the entire system life cycle management, from the initial acquisition support (including project definition and design), via production and in-service support (including supply, maintenance and engineering services) to the phase-out and demilitarization stages.

Today's portfolio includes support to the following systems:

  • Land combat systems: armoured vehicles and artillery systems e.g. Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), BOXER, PzH2000, LEOPARD Main Battle Tank (MBT), M60T, Tactical Land Systems)
  • Combat Missiles (TOW, Spike)
  • Unmanned aerial systems (several UAS types)
  • Multiplatform observation systems (optical and infrared systems)
  • Multiplatform navigation systems (GPS)
  • Counter-battery & fire finder radars on behalf of various NATO nations or multinational organisations (i.e. OCCAR - Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en mAtière d'aRmement/ Organisation for Joint Armaments Cooperation). The supported systems are: COBRA (COunter-Battery RAdar), ARTHUR (ARTillery HUnting Radar), AN/TPQ-36 & AN/TPQ-37).

Additionally, NSPA provides Demilitarization, Dismantling and Disposal (D3) support for military equipment under the framework of the D3 Support Partnership.

Multinational cooperation is offered through Support Partnerships, but bilateral agreements are also possible.

Most of NSPA land system support is provided through the Air and Land Combat System Programme Office. A highly motivated workforce of more than 200 staff members, consisting of engineers, technicians, logisticians, procurement staff and finance experts that guarantees efficient and high quality service to customers.

Within a dynamic environment, NSPA staff remains flexible to respond to emerging support requests and, together with its customers, is constantly exploiting new cost-effective business opportunities. This effort has led to a continuous expansion of the portfolio. The benefits of strong in-house engineering skill and the test equipment and infrastructure of the workshop, enables the Agency to take on new tasks and to develop solutions to meet future challenges.

MLRS

The M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (M270 MLRS) is an armored, self-propelled, multiple rocket launcher; a type of rocket artillery. Since the first M270s were delivered to the U.S. Army in 1983, the MLRS has been adopted by several NATO countries.NSPA provides logistics and technical support for the MLRS through the Artillery Rocket and Missile Systems (ARMS) Support Partnership (SP).
This support is tailored to the specific customer needs for the various operated MLRS configurations within the Nations. This includes the supply and maintenance activities especially the management of MLRS common stocks as well as peculiar national stocks or dedicated stocks for a group of Nations.

NSPA has also established on its sites a MLRS workshop with the capability to repair and produce spare parts.Moreover, NSPA provides dedicated Post Design Services for some of the partner Nations to perform different activities including, but not limited to Configuration Management, Technical Data Package Management or Design and Modifications programmes.

  • Supply support / spares procurement Maintenance / Repair performed under several contracts with industry
  • Maintenance / Repair performed directly by NSPA for selected assemblies
  • Management of Common or National stocks and Direct Exchange stocks
  • On-site support through contracted Field Service Representatives (FSR)
  • Working Groups
  • Transportation

PzH2000

The PzH2000 is a self-propelled howitzer produced by the consortia KMW / Rheinmetall initially for the German Army and it is also in use in another five NATO nations.

NSPA provides well stablished in-service support to a fleet of nearly 300 systems (through direct or indirect contracts) and assists Nations to determine their technical requirements and manages modification, equipment integration and upgrade projects.

The services provided include among others:

  • Project Management
  • Technical support services, including documentation and training support
  • Configuration Management and Obsolescence studies
  • Maintenance / Repair performed under several contracts with industry
  • Maintenance / Repair performed directly by NSPA (LM-Workshop) for selected assemblies
  • Management of Common stocks and Direct Exchange stocks
  • On-site support through contracted Field Service Representatives (FSR)
  • On-site support by NSPA, including re-certification of selected subsystems
  • Working Groups
  • Supply support / spares procurement
  • Transportation.

LEOPARD MBT

The Leopard Main Battle Tank (MBT) is produced by KMW and has adapted over the years through different versions, according to changing battlefield scenarios and technology evolution.
NSPA provides in-service support to a fleet of more than 800 systems in different variants, through the Land Combat Vehicles Partnership, managing contracts with key industries for a variety of services such as:
  • Provision of supply support and spare parts procurement
  • Maintenance and repair services
  • Industry Support Services for selected assemblies
  • Calibration of test equipment
  • Training and technical documentation
  • Configuration management.

Tactical Land Systems

The Agency provides tailor-made logistics support to Tactical Land Systems through the Land Combat Vehicles Support Partnership. This includes among other vehicles system support to DINGO fleets, M60T (Turkish version) and Firtina howitzer. The scope of support includes contracts with industry or direct NSPA support for the following areas:
  • Supply support and Spare parts procurement
  • Central Stocks and Direct Exchange stocks management
  • Repair and Maintenance support
  • Documentation support
  • Technical Support
  • Working groups
  • Transportation.
